ST JOHN'S - Team Quebec's Samuel Talbot completed a 2025 Canada Games diving gold hat-trick on Thursday with a win the men's three-metre springboard while Saskatchewan’s Lila Stewart reached the podium for the third straight day taking top spot in the women's one-metre event.
With athletics and cycling getting a day off it was a slow evening for podium presentations as pressure ramped up in the team events with those competitions building towards the medal rounds.
But there was plenty on the line at The Works Aquarena as Talbot continued his domination at the pool winning the three-metre competition with a total score of 320.10 while British Columbia's Jackson Congdon grabbed the silver just .45 of a point ahead of Saskatchewan's Kash Tarasoff.
Already with wins in both the one and three metre springboard and the artistic event Talbot will also compete in the men's tower where a similar result would make him a contender tor 2025 Canada Games top performer.
Stewart delivered another polished display claiming one-metre honours with a total score of 263.35, comfortably ahead of her Quebec rivals Aurelie Sevigny and Mathilde Laberge.
It has been a productive Games for the 17-year-old, who started diving when she was just three, taking gold in the artistic diving and a bronze in the three-metre springboard.
In women's baseball, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan met in a battle for top spot in Group B with the Atlantic province coming out on top 9-7 improving their record to 4-0.
Pool A action saw Alberta ease to a 12-2 win over Newfoundland and Labrador to remain unbeaten at 4-0 while British Columbia won a 6-5 thriller over Ontario to leave both provinces with 2-2 records.
Led by hat-trick from Brodie Haynes Team Ontario rolled to a 12-2 win over Quebec to remain unbeaten and in control of Group A with a record of 4-0.
Defending gold medallists British Columbia, 6-5 winners over Quebec and Alberta, 5-2 winners over Nova Scotia, are tied for second each with two wins and two losses.
Over in Group B, Team Saskatchewan sit on top improving to 4-0 shutting out Newfoundland and Labrador 7-0.
It was moving day at sunny Bally Haly Country Club.
Team Quebec's Leonie Tavares has one hand on a gold medal after carding a third round even par 72 to take a commanding 11 shot lead over British Columbia's Jenny Kwon into Friday's final round.
Things are much tighter on the men's leaderboard where BC's Austin Krahn sits five ahead of Ontario's Matthew Simpson.
British Columbia also has control of the mixed team competition leading by nine going into the final round.
At indoor volleyball Prince Edward Island came out on top in a five-set thriller over Newfoundland and Labrador to move top of women's Pool C while the Yukon registered a pair of victories beating Northwest Territory and Nunavut who remain winless.
In Pool A, Saskatchewan tops the standings with an unbeaten mark of 3-0 while Alberta leads Pool B with the same record.
The leaders in the men's pools all sit atop their groups with unblemished records.
Quebec leads Pool A on 3-0, Pool B Ontario 3-0 and Pool C Nova Scotia 4-0.
