St. John's 2025 Canada Games Welcomes Fortis as First Major Sponsor

St. John’s, NL (June 21, 2023) – Today, the St. John’s 2025 Canada Games Host Society proudly announced Fortis Inc. as the first major sponsor of the 2025 Canada Summer Games. As part of the partnership, the name of the new flagship facility was also unveiled as the Fortis Canada Games Complex.

Held at company headquarters in downtown St. John’s, Fortis employees and their families kicked-off the special announcement with an energetic procession wearing co-branded Canada Games jerseys and scarves.

“Fortis is excited to announce sponsorship of the St. John’s 2025 Canada Games,” said David Hutchens, President and CEO, Fortis Inc. “Enabling youth to participate in sports helps develop important life skills that prove incredibly beneficial as they advance to successful adults.”

“The Fortis Canada Games Complex will bring our community, province, and country together in the spirit of excellence and will have a lasting impact well beyond the 2025 Games,” said Hutchens. “It’s an honour to be a small part of that legacy. We congratulate the City of St. John’s and all those working to bring the Games to our province.”

Kim Keating and Karl Smith, Co-Chairs of the St. John’s 2025 Canada Games Host Society, shared their appreciation for the partnership and reinforced the role the private sector plays in making the Games a success.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Fortis to the Canada Games family,” said Keating. “Sponsors such as Fortis play a critical role in bringing this premier athletic event to life and delivering an enriching experience – and legacy - for everyone involved.”

With just two years to go until the start of the Games, Smith encourages other businesses to get involved. “Let’s keep the momentum going to support the 2025 Games. I invite more sponsors to join us as we celebrate Canada’s best athletes and spark greatness in the hearts and minds of Canadians across the country.”

"This is a major milestone on the road to the 2025 Canada Summer Games. The Canada Games are proud of the sport infrastructure and programming developed by Host Communities from Coast to Coast to Coast. The Fortis Canada Games Complex will be a remarkable legacy that will inspire Canada's next generation," said Kelly-Ann Paul, President and CEO, Canada Games Council.

The new Fortis Canada Games Complex is also made possible by the generous support of the Government of Canada, the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the City of St. John’s.
