Orangestore 2025 Canada Games Torch Relay Arrives in Port aux Basques Igniting Province-Wide Celebration

The Roly McLenahan Canada Games Torch made landfall in Port aux Basques on Saturday evening, officially beginning the Orangestore 2025 Canada Games
Torch Relay in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Weeks after the ceremonial lighting on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the flame arrived aboard Marine Atlantic, Journey Supporter of the relay, safely housed in a lantern. After docking, the ship’s Captain and crew carried the torch off the vessel and passed it over to Premier John Hogan, officially beginning the first of 15 community relays leading up to the 2025 Canada Games.

“This moment marks the beginning of a province-wide celebration,” said Karen Sherriffs, CEO, 2025 Canada Games Host Society. “While the Games will be hosted in St. John’s, we want all of Newfoundland and Labrador to feel part of this national event and the torch relay is a powerful way
to share that spirit and excitement across the province.”

More than 130 torchbearers, from athletes and youth leaders to volunteers and community champions, will carry the flame in their hometowns over the coming weeks. Each relay stop will end in a community celebration that brings together residents, athletes, volunteers, and Games supporters.

The Orangestore 2025 Canada Games Torch Relay builds momentum for the Games taking place in St. John’s from August 8–25, 2025. For more information on the torch relay and full schedule of stops, visit 2025canadagames.ca/torchrelay.
