2025 Canada Games Exceeds Volunteer Recruitment Goal

The 2025 Canada Games Host Society has officially exceeded its goal of recruiting 5,000 volunteers who will help welcome the nation to St. John’s for the 30th edition of the Canada Games from August 8-25, 2025.

“We are truly overwhelmed by the response from the community. Our goal was to reach 5,000 registrations by the end of June, and we exceeded that number by mid-June,” said Kim Keating and Karl Smith, Co-Chairs of the 2025 Canada Games Host Society. “Recruiting 5,000 volunteers is no small feat. Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are known for their generosity and for supporting big events, and this milestone is another example of that. We’d like to thank all of our volunteers for their commitment to making this one of the best Games ever.”

The Volunteer Program presented by Atlantic Lottery launched in August 2024 at One Year Out and set out to register 5,000 volunteers.

“We are thrilled that more than 5,000 volunteers have now committed to representing their local communities at the 2025 Canada Games,” said Dallas McCready, Atlantic Lottery President and CEO. “Knowing our region and our people will be reflected throughout the events in both official languages is a real point of pride for us at Atlantic Lottery and we are so grateful to be a part of it all.”

The registration portal will remain open for those still interested in becoming a volunteer.

Next Steps in the Volunteer Journey

The Volunteer Services team is currently screening and scheduling individuals for different roles. Volunteers who have been assigned a role will be able to log into their GEMS.pro accounts and select volunteer shifts that best suit their schedules.

The training process has already begun and will be rolled out in three steps:

  1. General Games Orientation
  2. Role Specific Training
  3. Venue Specific Training

Volunteers are encouraged to check their emails and junk mail regularly for updates on the volunteer process, including information on training, scheduling, and uniform distribution.

Since the first Canada Games took place in Quebec City as part of the country’s centennial celebration in 1967, over 100,000 people have volunteered to help support and deliver all aspects of the Games' 50-plus year history.
